Comprehensive Dental Exam

A comprehensive dental exam will be performed by Dr. Oshins at your initial dental visit.  This will include the following:

- Oral cancer screening:  through visual, palpation and with the use of an oral cancer screening device called a Velscope  all of the structures of your head and neck will be examined.

- Examination of diagnostic x-rays (radiographs):  essential for the detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss.  X-rays can also determine tooth and root positions.

- Periodontal evaluation:  check the gums and bone, and the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease.

- Examination of teeth and existing restorations :  under a microscope, all tooth surfaces will be closely checked for decay, fractures and wear.
