Frequently Asked Dental Questions - Guilderland, NY
Learn. Smile. Thrive.
In addition to many hands-on services, patient education is also a big component of what we provide here at Oshins of Smiles. By empowering our patients with the knowledge they need to look after their smiles, we give them the ability to avoid the most common problems and preserve their teeth for life. To help you quickly boost your dental IQ, we’ve gone ahead and answered some of the most frequently asked dental questions we receive below, and you’re always welcome to give us a call and ask anything regarding your oral and overall health.
How often should I visit the dentist?
On average, a person should get at least two checkups and cleanings each year so our team can catch any potential cavities or infections as early as possible, but if you notice any pain or drastic changes in your teeth or bite, it’s wise to schedule a visit right away.
I have a toothache. What should I do?
Does it still hurt even after you rinse and floss around the tooth? If so, then you might have a cavity, infection, or dental injury, in which case you should give us a call right away. Acting fast will allow us to see you quickly and prevent a small problem from turning into a large one!
How long will it take to fix my tooth?
The answer to this question will differ from patient to patient depending on a number of factors, specifically, the type and extent of the damage to the tooth. Often, a minor cavity or chip can be repaired in a single appointment, but more extensive trauma may call for multiple appointments to place a crown. We can give you a more definitive answer when you come to see us.
How long will my crown/bridge/denture last?
Dental restorations require daily care just like your natural teeth, and by brushing, flossing, and coming to see us regularly, these prosthetics can easily last anywhere from 10-20 years, though we’ve seen many endure for much longer.
How long will it take to replace my tooth?
The process of tooth replacement can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to complete based on how many teeth are missing as well as the current oral health of the patient. Typically, the more teeth that are missing, the longer the process. Dr. Oshins can discuss your options and give you a more exact timeline when you come to see him for a consultation.
Will you accept my dental insurance?
Oshins of Smiles is happy to work with many plans in an effort to help our patients save on their dental costs. Give us a call so we can start helping you today.
